Breaking Through

“Go hither me lad to the yonder fields.
Break ye down the surrounding gates that
restrict your movements and let your prose
breathe the emancipating air that releases
your dreams out into the wild.

Let them run with the wolves and
dance with the wind.
Send them into the deepest part of the jungle
where life or death await them,
for an intriguing and romantic ride
to their fate.

Give them wings to fly with the birds
and a saddle to ride on the lightning bolts.

Color your dreams with the most
flamboyant  colors.
Break the rules of academic artistry
and let them stimulate your spirit
and enter into your thoughts.

Break the rules that proper prose requires.
Break down the fences that it built around it.
Their rules have handcuffed you.
They stifled your dreams and left you
drowning in the prosaic waters.

Lift thy head above the surface and look around.
See the winds blowing free and whimsical.
See the kites dancing with their currents.
Cast your prose into the air and see it
flutter in the wind.
See it breathe.
See it dance,
See it flap its wings.
Listen to it sing
and sing with it.

Let it command you to be free
and let your freedom write your poem.”
