Holidays Alone

When friends and family all assemble
In congenial homes around the table,
Sharing stories and laughing together,
Talking about all the best times ever,

There are some who are out there all alone
Without any friends, who live life on their own.
Some who forgot what life they left behind,
And some with a bit of sadness in their mind.

There are some in defiance of holiday festivities,
Who would rather walk the streets in the cities,
But deep down in their cold empty hearts,
Sharing is the sum of all their parts,
Of their true desires and of their needs.

Thanx Nelson. I'm lucky because I have a lot of friends that invite me. I go to different homes every holiday. For Thanksgiving I went to a family I've been friends with for thirty years who live in Bartonsville, PA. The turkey was delicious.

Really sad. In the middle of all these festivities, holidays and “season of joy” we have many of our brothers and sisters who live alone, nobody to talk to, share thoughts and cry / laugh with but themselves. Their stories and happy times forgotten not anymore shared with loved ones. I am lucky that I can still celebrate these holidays with friends and families but luckier still that I can share a little love now and then with a few who are out there alone - buying them take out food, sandwiches, snacks, etc, not on a regular basis but now and then when I spot where they are.

But for those “who forgot what life they left behind with the sadness look in their mind/eyes”, I can only cry.
I relate to your feelings Robert, thank you for this poem. Fave, love.
