The Whitening

Mother Nature of assorted colors,
Of green and brown and tinted others,
Through seasons of joy and of lament,
She whitens them all which heaven sent,
Softly to the ground with the swirling wind,
Snowflakes assemble whence they begin.

An ode to the whiteness that gathers about,
A joyful exuberance with a silent shout,
From poets and lovers of nature’s charm,
An enchanted spinning of an ancient yarn,
Winters arrive as they have always done,
Whitening the hills that glisten in the sun.
Mother Nature, the painter above all others.
