Where Pleasure Leads

Careful plans to become interrupted
Morality’s creed there to be abducted
Pleasure’s smile is an enticing thief
Its sorcery works beyond belief

Priorities consumed by its ravenous hunger
As pleasure’s lasting effect grows stronger
It takes over as it soothes the spirit
Vulnerable to its sweetness there to inherit

Where truth and beauty live in green valleys
Pleasure lies lurking in dark allies
It waits to lead us to its promised land
Nothing is there but fallow and sand
Pleasure all dressed up
In its sparkling finery
‘Tis nothing but a mirage
Emerging from the desert
