The life of Mortals [part 2 ]

Show me your scars, the site where healing seemed prolonged
And I’ll show you my stretch marks
We both bear on our flesh evidence of past traumas
Where the only skin that covers the only us we’d ever know
Grimaced beneath pressure and pain
And still tried to look like it didn’t hurt
Like gurgling on thick blood is just another day
In the life of a misunderstood poet
But bandages are only temporary
And underneath is what time proofed
That we aren’t as resilient as we used to be
That we can only take
so much
And the remnants of our teeth grinding pain
Is evident on the stitch scars
Where we tried to hold it together
Through the trembling and the rattling
Till the pain subsided
Show me the scars you wear on your sleeves
Like cheap accessories
Hoping no one sees
Show me the migraine you hide deep within your skull
Show me the core of all your troubles
And I’ll show you the pain I soothed to stillness
Hoping no more hurt finds me while I heal
