Blood Moon tonight

Shortly after sunset
When lovers the moon gaze, darkness they beget
A celestial rose held in an eclipse, strewn in the earth’s shadowy fingers
Draped in blood as its orbit lingers
Witches shriek, farmers wail and only the scholars comprehend the meekness
Of a crimson red rose engulfed in total darkness
The moon lazy from its travels
Resting in the earth’s shadow as it unravels
From hue to hue, from first contact to last
As the rays on its surface blast
Into silent nothing while skillfully carving out an astronaut’s paradise
Holding him in awe and leaving fools to their demise.
