Untitled

To every girl that loved and got hurt and still loved back

Are those tears I see in your eyes?
Are those band aids I see plastered over your heart?
You hold back tears because he would never see them even if you cried
Would never hear you when you scream in fear
He shows no signs of perfection even as you hold him against the light
Yet you rummage for truth from among his lies
Scanning for compliments from his abusive words
The impossibility of finding a prince in a servant boy
Brings you to your knees as he once again forgets your anniversary

Why do you let him drag race across your heart like that?
Are you content with the scars he leaves behind?
Like the black impressions of 4x4 tyre wheels on dead end streets
Your throat is scorched red from all the frightened screams
You hold back, holding it tenderly to stabilize
The shaking in your voice as you apologize
For what?
For loving him with all four quadrants of your heart?
For finding a lawyer where others before found a common thief?
For loving fearlessly, dancing tirelessly and laughing hard
Although he no longer is the reason?
What exactly are you apologizing for?
