The Promise

If I promise to be your easel
Baby would you paint the world?
Would you leave traces like footprints on sandy beaches
Of all the things we swore never to forget
So that we can always find our way back to them?
Back to memories captured in lenses
Where we caught rays of the setting sun in our laughter
So that we’ll never have to be afraid of the dark again

If I promise to be your thread
Baby would you sew peace into our souls?
Would you stitch together all the broken promises
So that lies and heartbreaks would be the least of our worries?
Would you weave our destinies in such a way
That the fear of being apart will never haunt us
For our paths would always cross

If I promise to be your last dream
Baby would you dream hard?
Would you dream hard enough knowing
That by the time you wake up I will probably be gone
Would you hold on tight to that one moment of all the moments that defined us?
Would you write the course of our lives behind your closed eyelids
So that at least among the chaos one picture would be clear
If I promise to stop promising all these promises
Baby would you promise me that you’ll never
Put me in a situation where I have to promise you promises
So as not to lose you?
