Dedicated to my Dear Wife

The cloudy sky’s in white and shades of blue
This early morning, as it waits for you

The sun’s putting on a magical show
Turning raven clouds to deep indigo!

The morning dew soon will evaporate
A glorious sunny day, we’ll celebrate

So, wake up my darling and lie with me
Let’s watch the sunrise by the deep blue sea

Let’s take a stroll on the white sandy beach
Holding each other, never out of reach!

As we welcome the waves brought by the tide
I’ll pray that always you’ll be by my side

For without you, morning lights will be low
Raven clouds will never turn indigo!

I wrote above poem using a very old form of poetry - the heroic couplet. A heroic couplet is a traditional form for English poetry, commonly used in epic and narrative poetry, and consisting of a rhyming pair of lines in iambic pentameter. Basically two lines that rhyme, each line having ten syllables. Each couplet supposedly self-contained.

It was used extensively by Chaucer in the middle ages and perfected by John Dryden during the Restoration. Popularized by Alexander Pope in the 18th Century.

The subject matter of my own poem is hardly epic in nature, but I just love the format and thought I could try my hand with it...

Aha, the very conservative iambic pentameter strikes again on the cords of marital musings.
I hope I'll have a dear wife someday. I think it'd be very sweet to write poems like this for her

Nice frame of love. Beach sunrises are worth getting up at dawn, grab your camera, record the early morning glow - the first rays of sunlight, stroll a few minutes. Get back to bed, sleep late to around lunchtime. :-)) Like. Thanks Brod.

Sim and I evacuated today. It is mandatory. This morning we tried to drive to Austin but we had to turn back because of flooded roads. Around 11 am the sheriff came around to tell us to leave. This afternoon we left the house and checked in a hotel in high ground. We're OK thanks be to the Lord.
