Doubt's Jaws
Poetic, prophetic phrases ring in my ears
Naught but deft tones had they been in past years
But tonight, yes tonight I know and feel
Tonight I earn what’s truly real
Ever before were they somber and seldom sought
For I saw no battle nor war to be fought
But now I understand, yes I understand
That I will always be fighting and now I’m a man
I speak in a man’s voice
And with a man’s words
Some may say it was a choice
That I’ve fallen in with the herds
Perhaps I jumped aboard the easy train
And took the cowards way out
But how many of you have seen the rain?
And know what it is to doubt
To doubt purpose, and joy, and life
To fall into a deep pit of strife
To doubt family, and friends, and her
YES, even she falls out of line
HER, who you held so divine
That doubt will swallow you whole
Etch your name upon its victim’s scroll
Unless you turn and fight
Run! Find your way back to the light
