Climb

Through streets and skies alike

A stare down
New weapons
Old ways
Old ways for hurting people
Smoke blocks the sky
Past skyscrapers
Standing on the edge
Standing off
Stepping off
Diving down
Through the crowded streets
Dashing through the plazas
Markets buried deep beneath
Where what they can’t see doesn’t hurt them
A dead end
Sharp light slicing skin
Who needs paths anyway
Climbing up
Reaching past the obsidian clouds
The tips of those skyscrapers
Like broken glass
Or so they say
From ledge to ledge
See the men
Inhaling blood money
Snorting powdered agony
A quick slice
You’ve caused enough suffering
For a drop of ambrosia
For a second of greatness
And your time is up
They’re coming
Keep climbing
Keep reaching
The air is swirling
The sky is a midnight behemoth
Looming over the sorry lives of so many
Dripping with collected blood
Pattering down onto those who have nothing else
But a chance to drink the crimson ichor of their brothers, lest it be theirs drunk
Climbing past the smothering clouds, the blanket of darkness that wraps around
Keep climbing
Always keep climbing
Don’t let anyone catch up
With furious eyes
Grabbing
Pulling
The air is icy now
Flecks of frost fill the air
Glowing, luminescent
Falling from the ether before burning out
Neon snow drops on my face
Brilliant dazzling colours
Every shade imaginable at once, and yet none
But keep climbing
Neither Baltic air nor gleaming flecks can distract
Those spires of deepest black
Made by those long ago
Maintained by those benefitting
Climb
Climb
Reach the top
Be the first
Make sure you are the last
And only then
Stop to think
What you have done to get here
And what your life is now that you are one of them
And think
What did it cost you
To climb

I wanted to write more of a story this time, and I think I did pretty well. I was trying to go for a more cyberpunk feel, and though I'm unsure how well that was conveyed, I enjoyed this nonetheless
