A Winter Night

The charcoal sky crowned a dreary forest
Moonlight drifting to the floor
Silence
Blanketing
An old predator prowled
Powerful, yet forlorn
The predator had lost the strength to go on
So many nights alone
As it skulked along, grey fur glinting in the soft twilight glow
Between the sparse pines
Ice crunched beneath its paws
The soft sheet of glistening white
Pristine and innocent
Untouched by calloused hands
The slow fall of the white flecks
A gentle cascade of thousands
The stars piercing through the stygian sky
An array of nebulas
Brilliant colours
Swirling and changing
Free
The old predator rested down
The soft caress of the moonlight
The predator laid its head down
A gorgeous night
The predator, let out a deep breath
And as the light faded slowly
And the cold of the snow grew fainter
The predator closed its eyes
And drifted off
