tobacco auctions

and workers grateful

for the gathering

sorting and packing,

this day dedicated to them,

casual labourers

working on ignoring

international fantasy

knowing only that today

is another for overtime,

leaving them

resigned

to handling leaves

they cannot weave or eat.

A siren blasts from the rusted fac… below the tobacco-coloured iron ro… sorting and packing inside with minutes in between, whistles and horns from a train

We’ll never forget songs sung in days listening enthralled, delighted with whispered answers near dawn paired honeyeaters waiting

May Day but no maypole here trees cut down as soon as they hav… like young virgins unfrocked ravaged destroyed
