Cloak & Hat

Originally a folk song I wrote which has been transformed into a poem...

Cloak and hat, the pitter pat of the rain that stays,
He moves on now, trying to figure out those forgotten days.
It’s raining still though he walks on, towards his lonely grave,
The turning head, the cloak and hat, his eyes are begin to fade.

He then walks on, the path that was, he hopes to find release,
His head just spins, as he begins to find out piece by piece.
The memories that are unclear now, he knows they’ll come again,
The path he needs to travel now will lead to way back when.

Stranger in the shadows, there to catch your eye,
The pace is moving faster, no time to run, or hide.
The truth behind the mask is not all it seems,
He’s there in his cloak and hat, living forgotten dreams.

Silent stares, he’s well aware, that time is moving fast,
Staring in, his forgotten home, the only memory lasts.
The pain begins, his heart has sinned, then he looks and sees,
The cloak and hat, is noticed by a memory thought had seized.

Stranger in the shadows, there to catch your eye,
The pace is moving faster, no time to run, or hide.
The truth behind the mask is not all it seems,
He’s there in his cloak and hat, living forgotten dreams.
