Longing For A Memory

Smokey eyes, the noise is loud, the steam flies to the sky,
Feet on dusty stone, as hands wave their final goodbyes.
Rivers fall, the uniform, is stained with droplets of love,
Pray to god, that the next reunion, won’t be up above.
Final call, the heart that holds the hand through open glass,
Seeing her future leave that would forever be her past.
A final look, they close the doors, she falls onto her knees,
A love now lost, a war has taken him over the seven seas.

As years have passed, the memory lasts, but still no sign of him.
A letter she received from war states that he had been missing.
The days have gone, its time to move on, she can grieve no more.
She gazes out the window with his child playing on the floor.
A knock on the door of a stranger, it opens to reveal,
A heart that was lost, a memory that has now become so real.
He opens his arms for her, tears running down his eyes.
She falls into his arms and kisses every tear he cries.
Three words they speak, the promise they  keep, to never leave one another,
She shows him their son, new life has begun, he is now a father.
