“Echoes of the Buried Heart”

And I buried all the treacherous feelings of your betrayal in my heart.
And I felt a sense of calm, like gentle air patting the back of my head.
And I buried all the echoes of pain, betrayal, and anger in a shallow grave in my heart,
In hopes of catching a glimpse of sunshine amid mist—and so I did.
Little did I know these feelings would soon outgrow
the little trench I dug,
And how they’d come crawling back as a ghost of my past.
And how the ghost of my past would bury me in the same trench I dug for it,
And how it would cage and scare me whenever I ever feel for someone again.
