Encore

Our Winter clothes are long undone,
The May-blossom has been and gone,
So fast the seasons run,
And summer’s warmth has just begun.

Swallows veering low and high
Bring delight unto the eye
Returning to the land they love
Masters of the air above.

Rabbits hop across the fields
Eating grass throughout the yield,
The roots they find so succulent,
The season is so opulent.

Time after time all things return.
Life and beauty we discern.
May the wildflower meadows always flourish
For there our senses ever nourish.

These pageants of the passing seasons
Parade in beauty bringing heavens
For us to watch and share,
To bask in glory every year.

The thrill is in the repetition
Of things we love in prime condition.
Renewal of all that’s bountiful
Makes this land so wonderful.

Life is short the seasons say
But they’ll be back another day,
And though our years are now extended
Let this encore be never ended.

May 2o11.
