The Dance

Sometimes we are too close to each other
To see ourselves as others do,
Too wrapped up within our lives
To stop and look and listen
And to see the dance that’s going on,
The dance of our two selves,
And all that we’ve achieved in love;
Too engaged to notice that old age
Has clawed us closer to her bosom,
That our youthful looks have long since gone,
Faded into a different kind of beauty
Of careworn looks and earned maturity.
And so our lives go on,
In this dance that’s not yet done.
