Leaving you softly
As I lay here in the dark and I watch you sleep,
I try to find the words to say how much you mean to me,
You have loved me even more than I have deserved,
As I lay here I can feel myself slipping away,
Our father is calling me home, I won’t see another day,
This illness may have my body but he will save my soul,
I believe for every man on earth there is one true love,
I thank God I found mine, Your surely my gift from above,
As I lay here in the dark and I watch you sleep,
Your the most beautiful woman my eyes have ever seen,
I have been blessed with a wonderful life,
You have been a great mother and I couldn’t ask for a better wife,
Years ago when I took those vows,
I meant them back then and I mean them right now,
I don’t want to wake you and see you cry,
I want to fade softly into the night.
Know that I’ll watch over you, though I won’t be here to grow old,
I’ll be waiting for you in Heaven on streets paved with gold,
My wish for you is to be happy and find love again,
I have been blessed to have your love,
You have been my best friend.
You are not finished here, You still have something to do,
So go out and find happiness and know, I’ll miss you too.
With this pen I’ve written, These feelings that are true,
One day we’ll meet in Heaven where I’ll be waiting just for you,
So smile for me my love and the rest of your life please treasure,
You have shown me true love and a life full of pleasure,
As I lay here in the dark and I watch you sleep,
I’ll lay my head beside you,
And go softly.
