Roots

As we grew, out our roots spread
And as they spread they intwined
While Intertwining we fell in love with our roots
Together we grew as one
And as one we became something beautiful
But somewhere between growing and grown
he stood holding what remained of my innocence
He ripped away the last attachments to my childish life
And now the only innocence I possess is in HIS skin
beneath MY fingernails where I scratched away the essence of a childhood
We thought we were ready.
We thought we were prepared and opening ourselves up to a new world of demons
These monstrosities dared to threaten to rip us apart
Hollow promises of deathly threats to destroy our flowers and leave us naked, ashamed and vulnerable
Demon after demon we were conquered but after each attack, though we lay trampled and bare, we grew back stronger
For a wise man knows one mustn’t fall in love with the flower but with their roots
For the fool who loves the flower will be left Helpless
When the winter and the flower dies they won’t they won’t know what to do
