When It's Better to be Wrong Than Right

Two students of two minds, between what’s right what’s wrong
Turned to their master to settle once and for all
A matter some of us have argued all life long
And urged the old sage to pronounce his judgment call

The issue being always right’s not always better
Than being consistently dead wrong all the time
There are times being sometimes right just ain’t better
Sometimes being always wrong is just on the dime

One argued this is an impossibility
The other countered you can’t rely on things halfway -
At least consistency’s proven ability
Neither listened to what the other had to say

The old master listened long to the two minds bright
Nodded gently at every point made, and then said,
“Wrong’s wrong–  still a wrong can be taken to be right
If one is smart enough to discern truth from grade.”

“Tell me, which would you prefer to keep time and date
An old stopped watch that is right at least twice a day
Or one that is always wrong by five minutes late
But which by which you can correctly make your way?”
