I have longed

I have longed
For cherry trees full in bloom
Amidst the gentle fingers of grandmother
Peeling the pea pods eternal
I was a boy then
Fancied on dream-clouds
Brushing my skin with breezes
As I awoke to a kind word
Amongst the violent summer sky
That peaked a boy’s god-like vision
To be dowsed with oil on the floor
Scattered on the cement abyss
Blowing in the autumn leaves
To and fro
As a banshees entrails
Lag behind in a pile of dust
But if I was a word
I believe that my heart could reach yours
Through all the mist and planets
To be a single beat
A chord that hits the soul
If I could don that feat
Maybe stars will align
And the heavens break open
And smile a kindly hand
Because I’ve never noticed loudness
Just the panting of a beautiful aerial display
But do you see me?
I barely notice my reflection
I peer over it again and again
I speak to a white wall
Filled with malice and indifference
And I can’t help but commune
With these ghosts
My friends, my family,
Those dead that were once my companions
And they speak life to me
To live!
And in that message I see only your face
It stiffens my sheets and clots my blood
To awake in a sweat
Happy and bothered
To dream on days without end
Giving my soul to a part
I have not yet seen
And yet these lights blind my eyes
And I meditate on you
For that hopeful glance
And you, you are my stars.
