New Skin

How sudden.
As quickly as a fall,
The end began and the beginning ended.
Funny that all that was in between feels so far.
Lost almost,
Seemingly disguised as nothing but pure joy,
But lacking the ingredients.
Our transition.
It was never painful, not till the end.
A snake squeezing out of old skin,
But losing it piece by piece
Rather than in one long stride.
A snapping of a branch.
I taste salt
And then I sleep.
