Psychiatric Waiting Room

Psychiatric waiting room
Hygienic smell of sickness cleansed

Sitting in the waiting room
Pondering, fidgeting
Her diagnosis looming nearer

Other patients look at her
Wondering what’s wrong with her
Does she have what they have?
Or is she sicker than them?
They pray for the latter
Making themselves feel more sane

Watching the clock ticking
Ever so slowly
The doctor loves playing the game
Watching her sweat in the waiting room
Wondering what is to come

She feels the sweat forming on her brow
Dripping, she tastes the saltiness
Her anxiety and tension
Waiting

And as he finally calls her name
She sees cruelness in his eyes
He is not here to help her
Like all human beings
He is only here to judge

She stands
The others hold their breath
(They will be next soon)
As she takes her first steps
Over the barrier
Into a sea of judgement and misunderstanding
