Rainy Day Blues

Well, the rain is coming down like dogs
And you’re going away because of your catalogue
They’ll tell you it’s the wrong thing to do
But you’ll be gone by the time they get through
So take up and run as fast you dare
Because the rain is certainly staying in the air

I wish you’d told me what it was that you done wrong
I could’ve got the chief of police to sing another song
But you would not stay around for very long
You told me once you might go towards the bridge
But they’ll catch you up and lock you in a fridge
There’s just no point in running up to the ridge

Well I told that it would be the end some day
So you’ll have to be brave since its you that’s gone astray
And these grey rainy skies are just the blues for you
And you will be all alone with everything you knew
The barriers are set; they accuse you of foul play
The man in the wig will look in his book and then say “nay”

If you open your mouth the truth may just jump out
And you’re blues will be with all the way
Those grey skies will stay; they’ll hang on the hill
Those men in blue suites will keep adding to the bill
It can only get worse when there’s nothing in your purse
These really are the rainy day blues for you.
