Why I Love You
This is the first meaningful poem I ever wrote. There isn't any amazing use of words and it's a little bit all over the place but I didn't originally intend to share it with anyone other than my girlfriend.
I love the fact that you always win,
Then you say told you so with a big grin,
I love the way you can make me happy,
With just a few words when my day’s been crappy,
I love that you have trust in me, and also that you’re trustworthy,
I love your generosity, and all the things you do for me.
Although our love is secret, I couldn’t love you more,
Of all the people in my life it’s you who I adore,
You are my everything and I just want to make you happy,
So I’ll always be here for you, sorry if I’m sounding sappy!
Your smile makes me melt faster than ice cream in the sun,
When I look into your eyes it makes my heartbeat start to run,
When we’re holding hands I want to keep them held forever,
Nothing makes me happier than when we are together.
When I’m not with you I fall apart,
The further the distance the more pain in my heart,
I miss you so much it could bring me to tears,
Then as soon as I see you the pain disappears.
You tell me that you love me and then everything’s ok,
You know I love you too but I still always like to say.
Every single time I see you I get butterflies,
Electric waves run through me when you look into my eyes,
When we touch it feels like magic, it just feels so right,
That’s why I want to hold you in my arms all through the night.
You just make me feel so good i want to return the favour,
So if I make you soup I want to make your favourite flavour,
If I buy you clothes I want to get the best designers,
Colours that you love and not some shit that’s made in China!
When you feel ill I’ll comfort you with lots of cuddles in bed,
Make sure you’re nice and warm and give you kisses on the head,
When you’re sad I’ll do anything that might make you feel better,
I’ll make you laugh by running round in nothing but your sweater!
If anyone insults you I will slap them on the head,
If anybody hurts you they will be as good as dead,
Anyone who doesn’t like you is just jealous as fuck,
Because you’re worth a million, and they’re not worth a buck.
I love that you can down a beer faster than me,
Yet when we’re on the vodka you’re more plastered than me,
We have such a drunken laugh together,
I wish these times could last forever.
Like sitting in the cinema and drinking Apple Sourz,
Kissing through the film is something I could do for hours.
People said I should have watched Avengers it was fun,
But I enjoyed it more tasting the apple on you tongue.
If I measured my love for you in heat it would be sure to melt the sun,
If I measured it in weight it would be one billion tonnes,
If I explained my love in speed it would outrun the speed of light,
And if it was in distance it would be far out of sight.
I could write a whole book on metaphors of how I love you,
It would have so many pages it would tower right above you,
But truth be told, as we both know, every last word in the world,
Could never be enough to say how much I love my girl,
So when you’re done reading these words that lay below you,
Lean in to me and close your eyes to kiss me and I’ll show you.
