Walking

I step, I use my feet to lift off the hospital bed,
the shores glisten like starlight
reflected in the clearest waters, that roll in rhythm and ripple at my toes.
I’m standing, My own two legs become my pillars,
My breath is endless, I breathe so loud,
like lions roar I’m power, I’m wind,
I see far off seas, everlasting ocean, dotted with white clouds.
My heart, no longer a thudding mess but bursting with love,
How my children have grown, how strong they are,
to continue without me, and let me burst forth,
to walk and dance these sandy shores, where one day they will greet me
And I shall gaze upon elderly faces, of which I only remember young, and say
“Well done.”
