Beloved of mine.

Is the crown really all that gold?
Does it glisten with glory and shine?
Was it power I craved, or perhaps a new start,
I gave up beloved of mine.

This throne is much too large for me.
Do I really think myself divine?
Do I crave life as a simpler being?
or miss beloved of mine.

I see lady so happy, so cherished so loved,
wrapped up in someone so fine.
How precious to see, that could have been me,
Had I not lost beloved of mine.

Sometimes when I lie, and he takes me at night,
I think to myself “ I’m a swine.”
To trade in what could have been illustrious romance.
To trade in beloved of mine.

I see roses so polished, a royal blood red
all  are just thorns on a vine,
It reminds me that sometimes dreams aren’t worth the price,
When I gave up beloved of mine.

What possessed me to do so, Euphoria of war?
Or perhaps a new man that’s mine?
Perhaps my senses will twist with memories,
If given plenty of time.

With hair of black raven, and skin cold as snow,
And a chill in the eye makes him blind,
These are the things I remember him by,
That dear sweet beloved of mine.
