Higher education purports
to prepare you for life
when really it exists
to indebt you for life,
expanding campus ideology
into every corner of reality,
virtual or otherwise
Once indebted to higher education
you become subservient–
To get and keep the job
you need to pay back your debt
you must endorse the prevailing ideology
or, at a minimum, stay silent
Those who speak their minds
risk exile to the debtor’s prison
of life on the American margin
which, tellingly
is also exactly where you’ll find
that most vociferous of campus mouthpieces,
the adjunct professor
