St Pancras Station

Oh, great St Pancras Station
That once was full of steam
You’re now full with diesel fumes
That reach up to your beams.

We stayed at your hotel
Which Sir Gilbert Scott designed
For our golden anniversary
Where we laughed and danced and dined.

You’re a doorway to the past
Of two world wars gone by
And we truly are aghast
To be alive, so well and spry.

We celebrate our Midlands fathers
Who f0ught in those world wars
Great uncles and grandfathers
Returning through these doors.

John Betjman’s love of Gothic
Saved the hotel and station,
Made from Midlands brick,
From a 'criminal’ demolition.

Inside a statue of him stands
Which we stood beside for a picture:
This Rennaissance looking grand
Now modern with Gothic restructure.

The station and hotel
Are two that go together,
Like us in love and life
Well suited to each other.
