Collision

She didn’t know this would be the last time,
The last time she would unpack her bag.
She sat and remembered the first time she got away.
The first time she had freedom.

She remembers it as the happiest day of her life.
And in that moment,
When she got to her destination and found what she longed for,
She thought nothing bad would ever, ever happen again.

In that moment of exchanging those first few words,
Nothing in the world mattered to her.
Looking into those honey colored eyes,
That was what mattered most.

She took his hand and held it with pride,
And he couldn’t contain his smiles.
She saw his face light up with every word she spoke,
And thinking back to it she knew that was the happiest she’s ever seen anyone.

What she didn’t know was,
That the next few months would be the happiest of them all.
Even then,
Nothing compared to the collision that her heart had with his that first day.
