The Perfect Poem
To me, it’s not about rhythm,
It’s not about iambic pentameters,
Nor is it about the syntax,
Poetry begins at the heart,
And flows from the start.
With no end, it is my friend,
and it gives me the courage,
To speak when my mouth cannot.
To me, it’s not about what they teach you at secondary school,
It’s not about the perfect semantic field,
Nor is it about the diction,
Poetry has no end,
It’s a God-send
and it is a chance to speak,
With acquired wisdom and control.
Poetry takes control,
It takes over your soul,
In every word you write,
About your life and all it’s strife,
All the highs and the lows,
As well as the in-betweens?
Poetry takes control.
