Alive In My House

I have a picture. I have a letter
I have a song.

And you have surely known someone,
gone all too soon.
Yes, You knew that angel
before She got Her Wings.
Before She left an empty shell
of a body that did better things
than lying motionless in a cold box.

Still, You can say:
I have a picture. I have a letter.
I have a song (she used to sing).

And still, we have the best of dreams.
I see them, hear them speaking clear and live.
Sometimes it even seems
those dreams are where I thrive.
Not right that we awake wondering
“Why?” and “Why not I instead?”
But rest assured this is how it must be—
You alive. A loved one gone away.

I often like to say:
I have a picture. I have a letter.
I have a song.  (It makes it better.)

Where did they go?
I don’t know why they thought
it was alright for them to leave.
It was not!
And who is left to mourn, to grieve?

Keep this secret between you and me.
You must keep silence like a mouse.
because the secret is, you see,
Angels are alive in my house.

Also,
I have a picture. I have a letter.
I have a song.
