Caricamento in corso...

Outside of time

September swaddles evening sky
Into a shawl of darker blues
With diamonds studded.
Trees, shivering in autumn breeze
Discard their faded, wrinkled dresses
That were so vibrant in July.
Another year has wrapped itself
Into a circle neat,
As foxes do when dosing off.
I recollect my path
Whilst shuffling my feet
Along a trail familiar,
With memories of spring and summer littered
Among the dried up, crunchy leaves.

The never-ending dance of time
Keeps whirling round and round.
Each day like a new partner
In the waltz of life,
I’ve trouble fixing sight
On something permanent.
October soon will join the ball
In raincoat dreary
And scarf uncomfortably cold
Sewn out of prickly winds.
He’ll take my hand in turn,
And tired feet of mine
Will follow music’s rhythmic sways.

As if a helpless leaf myself
Torn from a branch,
I know not where I’ll be carried
By thoughtless minutiae.
The mind is longing for a quiet moment of repose
Somewhere between two weeks ago
And tomorrow,
Someplace where stillness dwells,
Where winds and thoughts come down to rest,
Quite outside the rush of time,
Between this breath
And the next.
