Following passages of ancient runes
They met quite by chance
In a meadow of twilight,
Glancing each other through alders and pines,
Poor traveling circus magician and a village girl.
Gazing into each other’s eyes,
Love, was the word they were looking for?

Eager to give her all his earthly possessions,
He asked, what do you wish for?
What does your heart desire?
This antique coin, please take it.
It shall be your charm of good luck.

I have no need of the coin, she said.
I will leave its good luck with you.
Stars above guide my fortune,
They have brought us together this night.

Do you fancy this gem?
See how the moonlight shines through it,
Making it sparkle?

The light in your eyes as you look at me
Is what brings me delight.

I have seeds in my pocket from far away lands.
Let me plant a garden for you,
In the depths of these woods,
Secret from everyone else.
Vibrant colors and delicate scents of those blooms
To gladden your sight and your senses.

For your offer I’m grateful,
Though, I much prefer
Heady fragrance of pine needles
And tangy flavors of earth
To the florid perfumes
Of exotic bouquets.

I want to give you my heart,
For I own nothing else, save my hat.
I beg of you to accept it
As a token of love
It’s engulfed with for you.

I will not take your heart.
Keep it safe in your ribcage, she laughs.
I will take your hand instead,
As we lie on this carpet of grass,
With my head on your chest,
Listening to that engine inside
Working its magic,
And gaze at the stars.

We need no home, no material possessions
To adorn or confirm our feelings.
To another town, on your next adventure
You’ll soon be gone.
Dome of this sky will be the roof
That shelters us both across distances.
I will treasure this simple, heart-shaped leaf
To remember you by.
