The Drums of Glory

“Sound the fife and drums of glory
ye brigade of fighting men times forty.
Give 'em all you got and then some more.
Reach into your gut and then will thou soar,
reaching Triumphant Mountain you shall climb.
Then at the top you can say, ”"It is mine."”

I am one of many who fought their way up.
We all did it and reached down into our gut.
Armies are a thousand men to act as one,
our goal to reach before the day is done.
For the many of our foes that are still there,
we shall out number them in battle flair.

But for some who didn’t make it to the top,
upon their climb, to the dust they dropped,
we pay homage to them on this special day,
in memory of them who fell by the way,
our service men who fought 'til the end
and died for our freedom, our bravehearted friend.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.

This was written for my friend Jim Shoemaker to recite at this year's Memorial Day Service. I just found out he wants me to read it.
