My Favorite Sounds
My favorite sounds are of the seas and surf,
The bells that end class; the sound of mother
Calling me for supper; the sound of birds
Having their druthers after the rain,
I love the sounds of buttons bouncing in the dryer,
The sound of children laughing & playing,
Of the cacophony of the pouring of rain on the rooftops,
Of the howling of the winds in a storm,
Of a baby just being born.
I love the sound of honesty, of conviction;
Of earnestness & of caring & affection,
Of saying "Please & Thank-you",
Of concern & integrity,
Of the wood stove crackling & burn.
These are the sounds I hate:
The first fallen leaf of Fall,
The sound of the empty piggy bank withdrawl,
Of people arguing, of discrimination & rape,
Of callousness, maliousness & bullying & hate,
Of hunger & disease,
Of broken promises, of loneliness, apathy & spite,
Of sorrow, sanctimoniousness & strife.
