My Country
I’m grateful for this land of mine,
I plead guilty to thinking patriotism is fine;
Christianity has a place in my way of life,
Free enterprise helps provide for children and wife.
The choice is yours– what you’re to be;
Success is based on what I have in me:
Grateful for institutions that help keep us free,
Knowing full well, its strength lies in thee.
All man-made things have weaknesses, I’s aware,
Despite its shortcomings, with faith I do care;
Needless to ask– where else on earth
Does one have so much from the day of this birth?
Free expression and laughter– it’s the American way,
To our shores all wish to come and to stay;
Once in a while one defects from us,
They are free to leave, with never a fuss,
The flag is unfurled– let the drums roll,
Sacrifices of others have taken their toll;
What makes our nation great did not come by chance,
Contributions of others helped us to advance.
