My Dad

My dad gave me such sage advice
When telling me the facts of life,

You wonder where he learned so well
The things to me that he did tell.

You know that he ne’er went astray
It was the other ones who went that way.

His life was an exemplary one
‘Twas this way my mom he won.

When I’m inclined to sow “wild oats”
And listen to some shady jokes,

I think of Dad so very wise
And say “no” to the wayward guys.

He told me always to beware
Of girls who wear black underwear,

To never gamble, drink or cuss
Or approach strange girls on the bus,

You wonder how he knew so much
When temptations never him did touch,

I guess the way that he did learn
His dad, too, had it same concern.
