Not Like the Fairytales

As a kid, we all think we know what love is
We learn it from the fairy tales.
It’s traveling far and wide to find the girl who fits the shoe.
It’s taking her on a magic carpet ride, to show her the world
But really that’s not it at all.
I thought I had it all figured out
But now you’ve come into my life
And this thing I’m feeling,
It’s like nothing I’ve known before.

It’s seeing you smile and getting butterflies in my stomach.
It’s being in your arms and feeling like I’ve come home
from the longest day of my life.
It’s talking to you about everything under the moon—knowing you’ll listen
It’s wanting to hear and hang onto every word you say.
This feeling is nothing like what I used to call love—
But believe me it’s so much better
