How humans love

They say blood is rare,
And sweet as cherry wine,
But love is rarer and sweeter.
I remember it all too well,
The scent of mulberries in the air,
And lavender in your hair.

I hadn’t known bliss,
Until I found you;
I hadn’t known pain,
Until I found you;
I hadn’t known how to be loved,
Until I found you.

You say to love you is a mistake,
For you have scars that taunt you,
And nightmares that haunt you.
But I have seen your battle marks,
I have touched them, heard them, felt them,
And I will never let you hide your scars.

We may not share the same sun today,
But I still hold your heart in mine.
If these walls could talk,
They would sing a ballad of our love.
The footprints we left on snowflakes,
Are enough to last me a lifetime.
