A Story (Part 2)

A Story.  (Part Two)

That’s when she saw you,
And in that moment she knew,
That her life had changed forever,
But she was so confused.

She’d spent so long in agony,
She’d wasted her life away,
For a moment she thought would never come,
But it came to her that day.

She didn’t want to feel again,
Because she knew she wasn’t strong,
She was too weak to handle heartbreak,
Because her heart was numbed so long.

She didn’t want a reason to keep going,
She was afraid you’d hurt her, too.
She thought you wouldn’t catch her,
If she fell for you.

She tried to keep building up her wall,
She wanted to keep you out,
She didn’t want to be vulnerable,
Because her heart was full of doubt.

She was not expecting,
The feeling that you brought,
She wouldn’t have believed,
You would be in her every thought.

The feelings she’d kept inside,
The emotions she’d held back,
They all came crashing over,
And her walls began to crack.

When she saw your smile,
Her walls started their fall,
You broke through her barrier,
She was terrified by it all.

She saw a light in your eyes,
That she would never find again,
She felt a joy she’d never felt,
In the midst of throbbing pain.

And when she heard your laugh
The sound gave her butterflies,
She finally heard the truth,
In old familiar lies.

And then he came back to ask her,
If she loved him, too,
She was shocked by her own answer,
When she said she fell for you.

He apologized for breaking her,
He was sorry for her pain,
He told her that he loved her,
And apologized again.

But she knew he was too late,
She had given you her heart,
And even though she fell for you,
She was torn apart.

She didn’t want to hurt him,
She didn’t want him to break,
Because she knew what it felt like,
She knew the feeling of heartache.

She told him she was sorry,
He told her he was fine,
He knew that he had hurt her,
And that it would never be their time.

It was you, who picked the pieces up,
Of her broken heart and soul,
You pieced her back together,
And brought back to her what he stole.

She knew she was feeling for you,
What she told herself she wouldn’t,
She knew that she was being vulnerable,
When she convinced herself she couldn’t.

With every word you spoke to her,
And every time your eyes met,
She felt the hope that she had longed for,
Happiness she would never forget.

And she knows she’s falling for you,
As impossible as it may be,
Her walls are slowly disappearing.
And she’s beginning to feel free.

She doesn’t know how to handle it,
She is still so afraid,
That once you know the real her,
You won’t feel the same way,

But she’s done with pretenses,
She’s done trying to be perfect,
She just hopes you’ll still be there,
When you know her secrets.

Because truth is,
She’s quite taken by you,
You make her believe that, maybe,
You’re falling for her, too.
