“They’ll Stone You and Then They’ll Say ‘Good Luck’”
As the boat overfilled with refugees
was turned away from the harbor
each of the onshore demographic groups
had their own routinized, ruthless reaction
but surrounded by my own
cohort of white liberals
I can testify that they were almost all
waving fondly and exhorting the refugees
to a bon voyage
confident that they will reconnect
with the sainted masses
who will be waiting to greet them in heaven
while their onshore rivals
will surely be burning in hell
