Circles                  no                   a circle
a single circle
it is perfect                      completely circular
as round as an iris
maybe it is an iris
no one ever said what was in the
circle
darkness            emptiness              silence
nothing given
nothing taken
nothing.
the silence is deafening
I can feel it shake my bones
the circle surrounds me
holds me like a mother holds a child
it wraps around me like a blanket
then smothers me
I can’t breathe                 holding too tight
clenched together on all sides
stuck              trapped             dizzy              lost
round and round it goes
pulling tighter at every loop
“loop de loop” sounds so kind until
it pulls                so tight
until there’s
nothing left
just dust            powder             particles                 .
so tight
until there’s                     just
a circle.
