I’m Afraid You Don’t Understand. But I’m Not Afraid.
Once again, we find ourselves
unable to avoid asking–
Why do so many people hate Jews
to the point of wanting to see them dead?
But let’s refine the question,
borrowing from a recent article headline:
“Admit It: You Hate Religious Jews”
Why, then, do so many,
including plenty of non-religious Jews,
hate religious Jews with unflagging passion?
One answer, I believe,
is that every last one of us
believes in God
With that belief comes the gnawing suspicion
that religious Jews are closer to God
than we are
So what if they are?
Has God not given us legs
to move closer to the light
and join the dance?
Yet, tragically, we use our legs
to hunt down (all) Jews
as if that would chase away our fear
