The Betrayal

The Betrayal

Friendships and cathedrals
Built with earnest intent
From the ground up to
The very highest peak
The last stone put in place
After many thoughtful years
Working toward trust
Working toward God’s favor

That sacred bond of friendship
That cathedral in the soul
That structure that houses
Many benevolent thoughts
And secrets to be shared and
Kept ‘til death’s calling
As trust grows like a
Saintly flower in a sacred garden

Betrayal comes to be as a deadly fungus
And attacks at the weakest moment
When the blooming is at the fullest
And when trust becomes
Lost in its vulnerability
Friendship is too valuable to lose

The more solid friendship has become
The more devastating it becomes
When betrayal tears it apart

That cathedral in the soul
Must remain holy and intact
For how God wants it to be
