Dear Mom,

It’s almost my twentieth birthday.
My first one without you, and I have a lot of feelings.
For my birthday I’m getting a tattoo; a hidden one of a butterfly.
A little reminder of you—don’t tell dad.
I think a lot about you sending me flowers for my birthday every year.
I don’t really know if dad will.
Of course it’s not about the flowers,
I mostly just wish you were still here.

I got a contract for the Battalion again,
I know how excited you were to see me march,
It was the only thing you’d talk about all May.
Well, this year you won’t see me march very much..
I worked really hard and now I’m a Drum Major.
I know you’ll be watching me all summer.
I’ll do my best to make you really proud.

For Anyone that Keeps up with me, "Dear Mom" is gonna be a series and I'm just going to title them with dates from now on.
