The Christian Smile
Through misery, dark clouds, pestilence
Evil, abuse, slandering, violence,
Humiliation, ugliness, earthquakes
Famines, catastrophes, plagues
The Christian smile sits on top
As if they never happened
It covers up the ugly with clean hands
Hands that never saw the dark of day
Dreaming that the dark was never there
Holding on with all its might
When the heat gets too unbearable
Frozen smiles from Christian faces
Begin their fateful thawing
Like the winter bound lakes
Under the eyes of the glowing sun
Misery comes to the surface,
No longer hidden from
Christian eyes that saw their life as
An example as to what life
Is supposed to be like
As if their smiles were
The only remedy to
Make it that way
