Summer Camp

for Grant

Isn’t it a little funny how we still look back
On that week spent together at summer camp,
Remembering the memories we made.
I challenged you to out-shoot me
And you won by at least a mile.
She and I, we took your hat
And we wore it for awhile.
You asked me on Thursday to dance with you
In the pavilion, the very last night.
And as we were dancing, we talked back and forth
Beginning friendship under full moon’s light.

I’m sorry that lately, I haven’t been there
To talk; to be the greatest of friends
But now, I’m choosing to change that.
I’ll still be there for you 'till the end
Even if we haven’t talked much,
Know that I’m still right here.
If you ever need someone to talk to
I’ll lend a listening ear.
I know that since the summer
We’ve sort of drifted apart
Although the distance between us is greater
We’ll still be connected at heart.
